Donyea's Poetry
Winter's
Day
The
crow flies high overhead
In an empty sky that birds have fled
Darkness hangs across the day
Hiding the light that tries to play
Tendrils
of mist float around
Defying the sun to touch the ground
Shapes unknown hide within
Promising things as yet to begin
Empty
branches reach into the sky
Looking like death has just passed by
But in amidst this skeleton land
Life still reaches out a hand
A
robin hides her deep red breast
A yew stands tall, fully dressed
The rivers flow, wild and free
All shouting "no winter will ever tame me!"
Holly
and Ivy are now unbound
Full of red berry and green of leaf
A crescent moon shows high in day's sky
Peeping through clouds the wind races by
And
the Elder? Never sleeps does she
She watches, waits and guards you see
Pay your respects as you pass by
With fortune and luck she may reply.
