Persephone Meditation for Renewal

To be used when you want to replace something old with something new.

First decide what you would like to replace and what you would like to replace it with. Close your eyes, get comfortable and take three deep breaths.

You are standing in the middle of a large open field surrounded by lush hills, greenery, vines, flowers, herbs, etc. Ahead of you, you see an opening in one of the hills. You approach and see that it is a cave. You enter the cave and look around but can see nothing except a torch on the wall beside you. You take the torch to light your way and begin your decent into the underworld. The downward slanting path is long and cold and just as you are beginning to feel like you can’t go on any further, you see a form standing in an opening up ahead of you. As you enter the opening you realize that you no longer need your torch as the room is well lit and feels warm and loving. You see Persephone before you standing next to a table with a bowl of pomegranates on it. You can see her bright white aura all around her and you realize that this is why this part of the cave alone is bright and feels warm and loving. She beckons you forward and as you approach, she speaks:

“You have come to me today to be renewed. To mark an ending to one part of your life and usher in a new beginning. What is it that you would like dispelled and what would you like to replace it with?”

*Answer the question.*

Persephone replies: “So be it. Come forward and step into my aura.”

As you step into the aura of Persephone you feel the aspect that you want to get rid of melting away. And as you step back out of it you also notice a great feeling of renewed energy. Persephone reaches into the bowl of pomegranates and takes one. She squeezes some of the juice onto her hand and gently anoints your forehead with it. As she does this you feel a great desire to begin your new (hobby, talent, etc, whatever it was that you replaced the old with).

You thank the Goddess for her help and at this point she may have a special message for you or may just bid you farewell. You take your torch back off of the wall and begin the ascent back to the upper world. When you reach the opening of the cave and come out into the sunlight and fresh air you feel completely renewed. You feel no desire for that which was dispelled and feel a great desire for that which it was replaced with.

Take three more deep breaths and open your eyes.
